Below is a list of course subjects that I teach. They are available for private group bookings or one-on-one (up to 3 poeple) bookings. Please contact me directly on flintknapper@fsmail.net to book a day/2 day course or for more information.

Flintknappers Beginners day

This course is for all those budding Flintknappers, who have either never picked up a piece of flint or has done very little.
Course contents: Introduction to flint, scraper production, simple flake technology, flake production and retouch and other basic tools.
Age range: 6 years old upwards

Flintknappers Intermediate day 2

This course will be to take intermediate students to a more advanced level.
Course contents: refined handaxe production and more advanced thinning processes. Introduction to arrowhead production.
Time: 10-4pm

Flintknappers Advanced day

This course is for confident flintknapper, who are confident to move onto the next level.
Course contents: Optional projects - Arrowhead and spearhead production, Flint dagger production, Glass working, Obsidian working.
Age Range: 15 years old and above

 

  • Bone/Antler Working (harpoons, arrowheads, fishing hooks, needles, toggles)

Harpoon /Leister making/hafting 2 day course

  • Cordage & Glue Day (nettle fibre)
  • Arrow making
  • Birch Bark Containers (cups, bowls, arrow Quiver)
  • Hide Processing/Brain tanning Days (can take up to 5 days)
  • Fire Lighting Day (friction and flint & steel fire-lighting)
  • Natural Shelter Building
  • Spear Thrower making (the atlatl) and use instruction
  • Hunting Tools (sling shot/Bolas/Catapult/Throwing sticks) (2 days)

Basic Stone Age archaeology
Intermediate/advanced stone-age archaeology
Palaeolithic stone tools
Mesolithic Stone Tools
Neolithic/Bronze age stone tools
