Bushcraft expeditions

I was lucky enough to be approached by Bushcraft Expeditions to become one of their instructors specialising in primitive skills in 2005. Since then I have been extremely impressed, not only by the standard of professionalism of the instructors, but also by their considerable experience and knowledge base which has been developed over several years. I am extremely proud to be involved with such a professional and enthusiastic company.

Bushcraft Expeditions encourages people from all walks of life to join their quest for adventure and education. They offer expeditions to remote regions of the world as well as bushcraft survival courses and workshops in the UK and abroad.

As well as covering many aspects of modern bushcraft and survival for the serious explorer and enthusiast, the company also promotes the preservation of primitive skills; this is where I add my contribution to the company. My knowledge of prehistoric archaeology and primitive survival and living skills enables me to teach some of the fascinating skills developed by or early and more recent ancestors. I love teaching these skills and enjoy witnessing the achievements of students as they progress.

Bushcraft and Survival Skills Magazine

This is a relatively new magazine launched in 2006 which has provided the public with a very high quality publication that is aimed at education and the promotion of survival skills. The magazine has recruited some of the top instructors from British bushcraft schools and strives to deliver this information in a manner that appeals to all age groups and skill levels. Once again, my contribution to the magazine relates to the promotion of primitive skills, though my primary role is in the instruction of ‘lithic’ (or stone) working skills and the production of tools from other materials that can be worked in the same way as flint; such as obsidian, glass and ceramic materials. Each edition covers basic and advanced skills and my articles essentially follow the progression of prehistoric stone tool technology. This is done by producing illustrated study guides that flow from one edition to the next, gradually building the skills of the reader.
